Do you know what would have happened if Joseph had slept with Potiphar’s wife?
Let me break it down for you.
Joseph had a dream of becoming great. His father even rebuked him for having and talking about such a dream.
If Joseph had fallen for the temptation of Potiphar’s wife;
1. He would have gained the favor of Potiphar’s wife.
2. He would have remained in Potiphar’s house.
3. He would not have gone to prison.
4. He would not have met the King’s cup bearer and the chief baker.
5. None of them would have known him as a dreamer and one who could interpret dreams.
6. Pharaoh’s dream would not have been interpreted divinely.
7. The whole of Egypt would have been in famine for those 7 long years.
8. The whole world eventually would have been in hunger including Potiphar’s house, because, Egypt supplied food to people from all walks of life (the world).
9. His parents or family would have been in hunger.
10. His dream would not have come to pass.
11. And worst of it all, he would have disgraced God and not led his brothers to love one another.
12. And also, the Israelites would not have gotten to Egypt in the first place. Remember the promise God made to Abraham concerning his descendants being slaves for 400 years, and later freeing them at the detriment of the nation that enslaved them.[Genesis 15:13]
Just because of a temptation which was enticing, had Joseph fallen and satisfied himself/pleased himself in it, he would have ruined a whole generation.
Can you imagine the effect of that temptation that keeps coming to you?
Should you fall, do you know the worst thing which would happen?
No wonder the LORD tells us to flee from temptations. He knows how dangerous and deadly temptation is. But often times, we are of the mindset that, we can overcome or control ourselves.
God knew that, that is why he COMMANDS you to flee from temptations. Don’t act wiser than God. You cannot!
Joseph probably didn’t know anything about the conversation between Abraham and God. He only knew his dreams and the Laws of God which he kept in his heart.
Keep the word of God in your hearts, not in tattoos, and you would be fine.
David said, Thy word have I kept in my heart that I MAY NOT SIN AGAINST YOU, OH LORD. [Psalms 119:11]
If you need any word close, you can write it in a small book and keep it always in your back pocket instead of in tattoos (they are permanent). I don’t think tattoos are advisable.
Let’s look at what happened with David when he FELL for his temptation.
David was walking on the roof of his palace when he saw a beautiful lady, Bathsheba bathing. He sent for her. They brought her in and David slept with her that evening. David had her husband, Uriah killed in the battle.
The King fell.
The Lord sent Nathan to let him know the disaster that was coming upon him as result of this ‘act of disobedience’. [1 Samuel 11 &12]
Calamity didn’t depart from the house of David. Even the child that was conceived died at the Lord’s Command. Solomon was borne afterwards. And even until Solomon was crowned king after David, the ‘calamity’ still continued for a while.
My dear, you don’t know the disaster lying in wait for you behind that temptation that keeps coming to you.
The devil wouldn’t bring temptation to you if he didn’t know what it would cost you.
But our LORD is faithful and gracious that, even in the midst of all the temptations, he still gives us an escape route through the HolySpirit and the wisdom he has given to us through his Word; If only we will choose it!
Eve thought the devil was good and kind. She thought she would get what the devil was promising; little did she know that she was being tricked and tempted. And now see the effect of that fall of Eve: Humanity fell. Eve actually traded something huge for that apple/wisdom the devil through the serpent was talking about.
Brethren, if the Bible says flee, FLEE. Don’t think twice about it.
Temptation is like an acid being poured on you; you don’t think twice about it but you run for your life.
Stay Blessed.
JESUS LOVES YOU.
