Do you know that, it is not your righteousness that God sees?
In fact, he did not ask you to be righteous. He asked you to be saved (take Jesus as your Lord and personal savior). When you do that, you live IN Christ, so God sees you through Christ; whatever Christ is, you are, and whatever Christ have, you have too. You are now clothed in the righteousness of Christ. It is not you who live now, but Christ lives in you.
“Who wears a clean dress on a dirty skin?” So now that you are “wearing” Christ (dress), you have to be clean. And that is when holiness comes in.
Jesus said, “If you love Me, (if you want to stay with me, if you like my company, if you cherish me) you will keep and obey My commandments. [John 14:15]
Even with this, it is not by your own strength, but by the Holy Spirit (God’s Spirit _ 1 Corinthians 2) that lives in you, who enables you to do, and to will.
So you see?
In the long run, it is just your obedience (to the word of God/ the Bible) that matters; you don’t try hard to not steal, or do anything bad, but by just continuing to read the Bible at your own good pace diligently, the Holy Spirit in you would connect with the word of God you have in your Spirit, and lead you on the path of righteousness always. [The Holy Spirit comes to live in you when you become saved (confessed Jesus as your Lord and Personal savior) and have invited him to live in you.]
If you disobey (that is, you choose the desires of the human nature over the desires of the spiritual nature), it means you are choosing to be carnal, and to be carnally minded is death.
If you are not able to do good as you wish, like how Apostle Paul said it, “…For the good that I want to do, I do not do, but I practice the very evil that I do not want…” [Romans 7:15-20], then ask God for strength and wisdom, and you will be covered.
God loves you.
Consistently dwell on the word of God once you become saved or are born again. The word of God is food to your soul and Spirit. Without it (the word), you will be spiritually malnourished and would not be able to do any good thing onto the Lord.
“Without faith, it is impossible to please God.” [Hebrews 11:6]
“So faith comes from hearing [what is told], and what is heard comes by the [preaching of the] message concerning Christ.” (Romans 10:17)
Love God (obey his commands) my dear.
God bless and keep you. May his face shine upon you, and be gracious unto you.
Amen.
