Becoming You is about purpose; finding your purpose and living in it. It is your ticket to fulfillment, satisfaction, and peace of mind.
But before I dive into purpose, please allow me to establish some grounds for you from the bible, so that we would have a firm ‘foundation’ to build on.
“Before I can become ‘Me’, I have to be holy. Is that it? Can’t I find myself in my ‘current’ state?” You may ask.
I must say, ‘it is very good to have or ask questions. And it is even better to get their answers.’ And today, by God’s grace, you are going to get some answers.
When we read the creation story recorded in the first book of the Bible, Genesis, we realize that we were/are created in the image and likeness of God. Is God holy? Is God sinful? Is God weak to the ‘flesh’? Actually, God has no flesh. He is Spirit.. lol
God created us in his image and likeness; Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”[Genesis 1:26]. This is to mean that our nature (spirit) is holy, pure, perfect, and all that good stuff.
“Then why do we sin?”
Sin is in the world because Satan is, and because Adam sinned. Sin is also ‘ruling’ the world because of the weakness of the human flesh (our earthly garment).
Our earthly garment, body/flesh has been corrupted with sin. We were actually born in sin and shaped in iniquity.
“But does this mean we are condemned and there is no hope?”
Well there is hope. The hope is that even though we were born in sin and shaped in iniquity, our nature, our spirit is that of a holy one, and we can become holy and live holy as he is.
“How do we do that?”
By his Word.
Do you see how when you take poison, you don’t have to do any extra work to ‘die’, but you just die WITH TIME? Well that is the same with reading the Word of God: The Word of God is no comprehension book where we just read to be able to recap or account for what we have ‘learnt’ by answering some questions. The Word of God is power, He is Christ.
“Heaven and hell shall pass away, but my Word will never pass away.”[Matthew 24:35]
“The Word of God is sharper than any two-edged sword.”[Hebrews 4:12]
“The Word of God is living and active.”[Hebrews 4:12]
The reason why most of us don’t see the value of the Word is because we have reduced it to a book; a religious book which we read when ‘it is time’. No!
No, like the poison, the word of God has potency. When you ‘drink’ it, you would have its effect. And the effect is becoming like God: “And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”[2 Corinthians 3:13].
The word of God is a glory which if we should look into it, behold it, we would be transformed into its (His) nature.
Now, when God created us, Man, he put purpose in us. Our purposes are unique, and we are to work it in other to fill the earth with the glory of God.
“And no-one pours new wine into old wine skins. If he does, the new wine will burst the skins, the wine will ruin out and the wine skin will be ruined.” [Luke 5: 37].
Just like in heaven, there are some angels who sing (worship), others are messengers (Pastors, and men/women of God), while others are warriors (gifts and talents), each of us came with a uniqueness, but because of this fallen self of ours, we are not able to see the glory of God (divine purpose of God) in our lives. It is like being in darkness and trying to search for light. That is not possible: Come out of the darkness, and light will be there for you to see; no need to ‘search’.
So like us, even though we are in this fallen nature, God tells us to be perfect as he is perfect. Now look here, he said again in his word that he will not allow any ‘temptation’ to overtake us, and that he will provide a way out for us [1 Corinthians 10:13].
Well, allow me to tell you that, God telling us to be perfect is not hard because he has provided a way out and that is his Word; Read it.
Now, a step further is that, you got to be Born again and have the Holy Spirit.
“I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me will come one who is more powerful than I, whose sandal I am not fit to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.” [Matthew 3:11]
Being born again is confessing Jesus as your Lord and personal savior, and accepting the free gift of God, the Holy Spirit into your spirit [John 3]. There and then are you now a son of God, not just a creation of God. The ‘treason’ of Adam corrupted our spirits. Because while Adam was in God’s presence, Eden, he didn’t ‘need’ repentance. But now, because of the fall, we, as bodies and spirit are shaped in iniquity. Becoming born again is taking back your original self; I will call it, the “Eden self”, where you will be in God’s presence and freely have a relationship with him, with no hindrance of guilt or anything like that.
Now, assuming you have confessed Christ as your Lord and personal savior, and have received the Holy Spirit into your heart, you are now born again. What you need to do next is to stay in the Word of God by reading it regularly and communing with it, so as to have your mind (flesh) submit to the will of God [Romans 12:2].
Again, assuming you are doing that, you would have had your spirit in God, your mind in God, now what will be left? Your body. With your mind devoted and sold out to God, your body will follow, because your mind/soul with your spirit will control your body now: “No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.”[1 Corinthians 9:27]
This doesn’t mean you are perfect, or have reached full perfection. No. It just means that now you are on the same page with your Father in heaven, and he can communicate with you.
Now, with your spirituality covered, you have to find your purpose.
Purpose is your ticket to a fulfilled life, a life of peace, a life of impact, a life without waste, etc.
If you don’t know your purpose, you would abuse your life. And mind you, sometimes, the best things can be found among ‘garbage’ [you see it as garbage, but it actually isn’t]. Also, some best things, like diamond can be formed after tough and unpleasant situations.
Who thought/knew that with David tending his father’s sheep and being loyal to his father’s business by rescuing his lambs from wild animals was his training of being a warrior and king as a young boy?
Sometimes, purpose can be found in obscure places. “And why is that?” you may ask. It is because sometimes God wants to use the foolish things of this world to confound the wise. For our thoughts are not his thoughts, neither are our ways his ways. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are his ways higher than our ways and his thoughts than our thoughts. [Isaiah 55:8-9].
We can’t think for God. David thought he was lonely so he was “occupying” himself with music and writing, while in reality, it was God who was preparing his heart for the glory ahead: The glory ahead was too big for a faint/emotional heart, so God had to prepare him.
Your problems may be your ticket to the door of your purpose, you will never know.
Don’t forsake small beginnings.
David played the harp and occupied himself, served the Lord in worship, since ‘He was his only companion.’ Actually, God took his harp ‘diligence’ and gave him a ticket with it into the palace. He took his lamb/shepherding ‘loyalty’ and gave him a ticket into the battle field.
Did you know that if David’s father, who probably didn’t like David that much hadn’t sent him to go and check up on his brothers, David wouldn’t have been close to the battle field to be inspired to fight for the glory of God?
Don’t underestimate the power and planning of God. He is a master planner. Have faith in God.
Also, did you know that before Moses even knew that he was a leader of the Israelites, he exhibited some leadership qualities, and even acted in them? The only problem was that he wasn’t applying wisdom, but was in his flesh and emotions about it. [Exodus 2:11-14]. (Look at the man’s reply in verse 14 of Exodus chapter 2. Before Moses knew who he was, he was exhibiting some traits, but he thought they were just ‘normal’ or feelings, or just good deeds. “No Moses, you were living in your purpose, but with a soft heart or foundation. God had to shake and prepare you.”
So what did God have to do? He put him through a 40 years training to stripe him of his ‘security or his faith in his own self or emotions’. He had to rip his “testa/seed coat” so that he could ‘die’ like a seed and come out as a plant. And what did we see? God did a good job.
You can even see that had it not been for the ‘training’ of God, Moses would have been a weak person. Look at Exodus 4:10, and 13.
Your purpose is in you sweetheart, and until you find it, you will never be really rich, peaceful, and happy. You would always live like a slave under the system of the World.
The World with its people is like the promise land with the Canaanites, Hittites and the rest, while we, God’s children are the like the Israelites; we are not to ‘bow’ down to the Canaanites (Worldly people and their system). We are to show them our God and the benefits in him. And how do we do that? We do that by exhibiting who we are in Christ; Christians. You are not supposed to live like grasshoppers before their eyes. You are giants, because your God is great.
Find your purpose:
Purpose can come from your gifts and talents, passions, or even from your angers; That is things that angers you when you see it happening in the world. You may have a solution for it. Don’t be too emotional about it and leave it as anger like Moses did in Exodus 2:11-14. Let God train you.
Your purpose can even be buried in your fears: You fear you can’t sing well, you fear that you are not good in English and therefore can’t write. I must say, my purpose proved my fear wrong. My fear was the English Language and writing, but now, I speak even with an accent unintentionally, and I write by the Grace of God. [God takes the foolish things of this world (even your fear) to confound the wise (your neighbors, and those who knew you, and even yourself). It is okay to have that fear, but don’t let it cripple you, because God needs that fear to be able to show forth his glory and let you know that it was not you, but him and his power [Exodus 14:31].
Find your purpose, or else you will reduce your life to a 9 to 5 job.
I am not saying that everybody has to be a CEO, but if you will permit, may I use this example; Beyoncé didn’t know she could sing. In fact, she was taken to a dance class to learn how to dance. But one day, while her teacher was singing a song, she heard the song and began to sing it, probably because she knew the words, “not that she knew how to sing”. When the teacher heard her sing beautifully, she told her parents that the girl could sing, and that they shouldn’t concentrate on training her how to dance alone. They should take singing too.
Had it not been the intervention of this teacher, maybe Beyoncé would have been a backup dancer to musicians, probably top singers, and she would have been okay anyway. Or most, she would have opened a dance studio but be miserable, because that is not her full place.
Her parents thought it was dancing, but she, out of her passions, interests, likes, happiness/joy discovered purpose, singing, and she added the dancing she learnt, and that became a perfect blend.
Purpose could be just a fragile and little like that. Even our faith, with a mustard seed of it, do you see the great things we are bound to do with it?
Once she discovered purpose, who said it was easy or all rosy for her? She had to work it, like Adam in the Garden of Eden. She had to be broken like Moses, so that she will not live in her head, but in her heart. Through it all, success came.
# Pursue Excellence, and success will follow you.
It is just unfortunate that she used her purpose for the wrong kingdom, but all the same, we can see how purpose played out here?
I can say, some people fall into purpose; they never knew they could do something, until someone gave them the opportunity, and they ‘tried’ it. Only to find out that that thing was in them.
YOUR RICHES, YOUR WEALTH, YOUR FULFILLMENT, YOUR SATISFACTION IN LIFE, YOUR PRIDE IS ALL IN YOU. YOU ARE NOT EMPTY AT ALL. YOU KNOW WHY? BECAUSE GOD CREATED NO JUNK!
CLUE: Here are some questions to help you start the journey to discovering your purpose: [Exodus 2:11-14].
1. What are some “labels” your peers or family give you when you try to be “You(when you talk, write, converse, or do anything out of your own will)?” Mine was; Evangelist, Talker, “Too caring (i am an intercessor by God’s choice.)”
2. What are some things you loved to do when you were little which you didn’t really get a formal education for? Mine was; writing stories. Now, unbelievably, I have written 2 movies, and I have 3 more to go.
3. Should you have all the money in the world, and no worries from parents or family, what is that thing you would love to do, and be remembered for?
4. Pray to God about your purpose; it is your assignment on Earth. Until you find it, you will abuse your life and others will trample/abuse your life too.
#The blessings of the Lord added no trouble. [Proverbs 10:22].
#It is the blessings of the Lord (like your purpose) that makes a person rich [Proverbs 10:22]..
#No matter the waiting time, stay in God. David was a teen (17 years old) when he was anointed, but it took years (of preparation) to get him ready for his glory; his purpose. You may think you are being delayed, because the glory is not showing now, but IT IS JUST PREPARATION TIME.
# When PREPARATION meets OPPORTUNITY, the IMPOSSIBLE HAPPENS.
Amen.
Stay Blessed.
