The closer you are to God through Christ (the Word), the more humble and loving you should be.
This is not something you ‘try’ to be. It is something you become, like a caterpillar turning into a butterfly: it doesn’t try to become a butterfly, it becomes with time, and the conditions favorable I suppose.
The more you claim to be in God when you are still proud and hateful, then your meter is wrong.
Christ is loving and humble; while He was on Earth he washed his disciples’ feet, even though he was their leader/ ‘boss’. He showed compassion to the 5000 hungry followers. He didn’t condemn the world, but came to save it [John 3:16-17]: This is love that a brother should lay down his love for another.
Brethren, please do have a regular ‘check up’ about your level of humility and love towards mankind. “Blessed are the meek (humble), for they shall inherit the Earth.” [Matthew 5].
The Bible speaks from the first book of Corinthians chapter 13:4-8 that love is patient and kind; it is not envious/boastful; it is not arrogant or rude; it does not insists on its own way (selfish); it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong doing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things. LOVE NEVER ENDS.
You can ask yourself, “Am I patient? Am I kind? Envious/Boastful? Am I arrogant? Am I rude? Am I selfish? Am I easily irritated or resentful? Do I rejoice at wrongdoing? Am I tolerant (bear all things)? Am I hopeful, and do I endure all things with/for people? Is my love fading or enduring?”
This self-check is not to condemn you, but to encourage, correct, rebuke, and teach you the way of truth.
If you say you are a follower of Christ, or a believer, yet you are not humble enough/becoming humble and loving with all these love characteristics, then you have to check your relationship with God: you may just be doing religion instead of having an actual relationship with God.
As I said, this is not something you “force” yourself to have. It is something the Spirit of God in you bears, and as you conform to His leadings, He impacts your life with His fruits.
If you see yourself forcing to have these characteristics, then you are fully in religion.
Know also that the fact that you don’t force yourself to have these traits doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t desire it, or be walking in it. Develop an intimate relationship with God, read His Word often, fellowship with Him in a Bible, Christ and Holy Spirit believing church.
Christians, we are supposed to let our lights shine BEFORE men, not in our closets only or in our rooms, but before men, so that they may SEE our good works and glorify GOD, our father in Heaven.
If you are a Christian but intolerant, impatient, unkind, hateful, resentful, easily angered, rejoice when one fails, then there is a problem with your faith: GET SAVE/REDEDICATED YOURSELF TO GOD THROUGH CHRIST.
Your Salvation is the most important ‘commodity’ you can have as a Christian/Child of God. Without it, you lose.
This salvation is so important that you WOULD have to fight it with FEAR and TREMBLING.
Don’t be reluctant: There is no life without your salvation/Christ, because He is the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE [John 14:6]. Thus, you would be lost, deceived and ‘dead’ if you don’t have Christ.
Check your Christ-Mometer to see your level of Humility and Love.
The Higher the ‘level’ on the ‘meter’ you are, the more you are pleasing and loving God.
