As a follower of Christ, there are some principles which you ought to follow and obey so that you would have good success in your Christian walk; your walk on the narrow path which leads to eternal life.

A recreated spirit without a transformed soul, a renewed mind, and a forgotten self is worse than an infidel.

A human being is a trio: the spirit, soul, and body. Just as one part cannot exist without the rest, in the same way, a follower of Christ has to abide by ALL the principles listed above in order that he may have a successful Christian life. Thus, your spirit ought to be recreated (be born again; John 3), your soul transformed (Romans 12:2), your mind renewed (Romans 12:2), AND your body/self forgotten (Matthew 16:24 AMP).

It is when you do all these will your Christian walk be in sync.

How is the spirit recreated? The spirit is recreated when a person confesses, and accepts the Lord Jesus Christ as his Lord and personal savior. A person who might have done this already, but has backslidden for one or two reasons could rededicate his life to God through Jesus Christ by confessing and accepting the Lord Jesus as his lord and personal savior once more.

Once a person makes this confession, he is born again by the Spirit of God. Thus, HIS SPIRIT IS RECREATED. [John 3: 5AMP _ Jesus answered, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, unless a man is born of water and [even] the Spirit, he cannot [ever] enter the kingdom of God.]

How can your mind be renewed? The heart of man is desperately wicked. Once a man’s spirit is recreated, that is not all. He has to clean up his house. He has to clean his mind. How can he do this? He can do this by obeying and conforming to the standards of the Spirit who ‘birth’ him. These standards are found in the Word of God. When a person continually reads and studies the Word of God, he is exposed to the standards of God, which if he believes, and then obeys, his mind would be renewed. With consistency and diligence, his mind (thoughts and desires) will begin to conform to what his master, God desires, The Word. {Romans 12:2 AMP _  Do not conform to the world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [ENTIRE] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you]}.

How can the soul be transformed? Once your spirit is recreated, and your mind renewed, your desires change from the natural/carnal ways to the ways of God/Spiritual ways. Your Will begins to align with the Will of God; you gain more wisdom. [Romans 12:2 NLT _ Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God TRANSFORM you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.]

[James 1:14-15 NLT _ “Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death.”]

[Romans 8:7-8 NLT _ For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will. That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God.]

[Romans 8:5 NLT _ Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that pleases the Spirit.]

How can you forget self? Someone may think that this idea, or command is absurd. He may even think that it is equivalent to being told to walk without your shadow. My dear, it is possible, and it is of great benefit to you. The Self is the number killer and enemy of any vibrant Christian.

[Matthew 16:24-26 NLT _ Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you MUST give up your own way, take up your cross, and FOLLOW ME.

If you try to hang on your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?]

[Matthew 16:24-26 NIV _ Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?]

[Matthew 16:24 AMP _ Then Jesus said to His disciples, if anyone desires to be My disciple, let him deny himself [disregard, lose sight of, and forget himself and his own interests] and take up his cross and FOLLOW ME [cleave steadfastly to Me, conform wholly to My example in living and, if need be, in dying also].

“People ask me what I do in the winter when there’s no baseball. I’ll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.”
