DOUBT AND FEAR

Sometimes, we hear words or commands from the Holy Spirit telling us to do something, something that, sometimes, our minds can’t comprehend or we don’t see the need or importance to.

We hear “things” in our ears, telling us to do something, often in the immediate future which we know nothing about. But we are found wanting whether to step into the unknown by obeying the voice, or whether to use our minds to calculate or to do some calculus to be able to get or deduce the precision of the command we hear in our ears, which our spirit bears witness to.

Dear ones, I have been there before, I must say, even very recently. And the feeling you get when you don’t trust the voice but choose your “calculated calculus” over the instructions of the voice is very bad. The feeling is so heartbreaking: You feel bad especially when you know or when you find out that, the voice was from the Holy Spirit. You feel that you have broken some trust; the trust the Holy Spirit had in you to carry his message or to be the yielded vessel you promised him you would be.

“How do I hear from the Holy Spirit? How can I be sure that, I am hearing and listening to the Holy Spirit, and not to other spirits or even myself?” You may ask.

To answer your question, I want to create this picture so we both deduce the thoughts and rationale behind it.

You have the spirit, which is your Spirit, You have the Holy Spirit in you since you are born again and have confessed Jesus Christ as your Lord and Personal Savior. Now, aside from your spirit and the Holy Spirit, you got your limbs, and ears, eyes, I mean all your senses and body parts.

Now let’s look at this: The Holy Spirit in you represents a radio you have, your Human spirit represents the radio’s antenna, and your human hands which you will use to tune the antenna to an FM station or however it is, are your human limbs and senses still.

Now, should you not use your hands to tune your antenna to a good frequency, would you be able to hear whatever is been said on the radio? No.

Does that mean the radio is not working? No.

What does it mean then, if the radio is working, people are talking on the FM station but you aren’t hearing or listening?

It means, your antenna is not tuned to the right frequency to be able to hear. The worst or best result you will get is the”hweeuuuu” sound(pardon me for that…lol). Yes! And that means, someone is talking, but another person, which is you is not properly tuned in.

Like the above scenario, the Holy Spirit is constantly talking to us. I mean, he is our helper, and which helper will be silence and not talk or say anything to help his subjects or whatever it is called? I mean how? So you see. If you are not hearing the Holy Spirit or if you are not sure of his voice, like the “hweeuuuu” sound, it is because WE ARE NOT PROPERLY TUNED TO THE HOLY SPIRIT (radio) with our spirit (antenna).

HOW DO I GET TUNED TO THE HOLY SPIRIT CORRECTLY AND SURELY?

Below are a list of ways you can help yourself get really tuned to the Holy Spirit and hear his voice, loud and clear;

  1. Frequently READ the scriptures: even if you don’t understand the scriptures or don’t enjoy reading it, should you still cultivate the habit of reading a verse, page, chapter, book once a day, month, year, how long and however you will do it FAITHFULLY, you will begin to build and feed your spirit, to be able to develop every sense of it.
  2. PRAY in tongues more if you speak in tongues: what does the Bible say about speaking in tongues? Speaking in tongues alone edifies/builds you or “repairs” you, it boosts your faith in God in a way you never could have pulled yourself to, and thirdly, it is a direct communication with your maker, father, lover, and friend, God Almighty. So you see?
  3. Thirdly, I will say LISTEN: when you read the Bible regularly and pray often, listen attentively. I don’t mean that, stop everything around you, work, business, school etc to listen to the Holy Spirit. No. Just listen. I don’t know how to put it. Listen, he is talking to you.
  4. Put your FAITH in him to work: The Bible says that, we don’t live by SIGHT but by FAITH. And it further says in James that, faith without WORKS is DEAD. So as you listen, should you hear anything telling you to do something, Do it. “How do I know for sure that what I heard is from the Holy Spirit?” You may ask. You will know for sure my darling that it is from God through your filled spirit. Your spirit that has been fed with the word of God will discern and know. Anything that doesn’t give you peace in your spirit wouldn’t be from God/his spirit(the Holy Spirit). God comes with peace, that is why, his major encounters started with, “Fear Not”.  TRY IT. Put your leg in the pool, test the waters and gradually, God seeing your commitment will reveal himself to you in a way that you alone will understand…:)
  5. TALK LESS: If you are too much of a talkative or always around a noisy environment, you are more likely not to hear him speak. Even if you are in a noisy environment, try hard or train your Spirit, inner self to be calm and quiet. Having a quiet Spirit, in that case, even if you are deep down the ocean, you will be able to hear Him. The reason I said talk less is because some of us have fun with all of our body, soul and mind and even spirit, everything, is emerged in the pool of fun, happiness and noise making that, should the Holy Spirit talk to us, we are more likely to miss him and his instruction or promptings.
  6. And lastly, do everything FAITHFULLY, NOT RELIGIOUSLY, Note!: Don’t do it as a routine to prepare you for a “visa” to Heaven. No! DO IT BECAUSE YOU LOVE GOD AND WANTS TO KNOW HIM MORE AND NOT BREAK HIS HEART THROUGH THE RELATIONSHIP HE IS ALREADY HAVING WITH YOU. If you desire to know him, YOU WILL KNOW HIM FOR SURE. Amen..:)

SCRIPTURE REFERENCE:

Point 1: 1 Peter 2:2.

Point 2: Jude 1:20, 1 Corinthians 14:2, 1 Corinthians 14:4.

Point 4: 2 Corinthians 5:7

James 2:26.

Point 6Jeremiah 29:13_ “You will seek me, AND YOU WILL FIND ME because YOU WILL SEEK ME WITH ALL YOUR HEART”

AND ABOVE ALL, KNOW THIS: 2 Timothy 3:16,17:All Scriptures is inspired by God and is useful for teaching the truth, rebuking error, correcting faults, and giving instruction for right living, so that the person who serves God may be fully qualified and equipped to do every KIND OF GOOD DEED.

Another Scripture of reference is this: 1 John

It is not really in accordance with the topic for today, but it is a good scripture to read.

especially, 1 John 3: 9, which says that “None of those who are children of God continue to sin, for God’s very nature (“The Holy Spirit”) is in them.”

“People ask me what I do in the winter when there’s no baseball. I’ll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.”
